True or False? “I don’t need my tank pumped because I pour “that stuff” into mine!”

FALSE

In the 20+ years that Robert Foster of Elitte Septic Tank & Grease Trap Service Inc. has been working in the septic industry, he is yet to find a single chemical that he says can take the place of pumping every 3-5 years.

Household chemicals that have antibacterial agents in them counteract the effects of the good bacteria that you are pouring into your tank in the hopes of them disintegrating the solids.

The best way to maintain and guarantee the health of your septic system is to have it pumped out every 3-5 years. It is more affordable than standard maintenance on your vehicle!

Great Article on Septic Tank Maintenance!

“Hot tubs are a great way to relax. Unfortunately, your septic system was not designed to handle large quantities of water from your hot tub. Emptying hot tub water into your septic system stirs the solids in the tank and pushes them out into the drainfield, causing it to clog and fail. Draining your hot tub into a septic system or over the drainfield can overload the system. Instead, drain cooled hot tub water onto turf or landscaped areas well away from the septic tank and drainfield, and in accordance with local regulations. Use the same caution when draining your swimming pool.”

Septic Tip!

Septic Tip:

2 Signs your septic system is ill:

1) You flush a downstairs toilet and hear gurgling in the bathtub.
2) When you wash clothes, gray water comes up in the kitchen sink.

If your tank is full, the waste has to go somewhere so it either pools up in your yard or stands in the pipes under your house looking for the first open drain available. Or, worst case scenario, the pipes cannot hold the pressure and burst. Be very careful and watch the drain in your house that is closest to your septic tank.
